Indian Government Clarifies Position

The Indian government has stated that there was no request made by them to withhold Reuters’ X handle. Contrary to reports, the government denies any involvement in the situation that led to the international news agency’s social media account going blank in India.

Current Status of Reuters Handle

As of now, the Reuters handle is not accessible to users in India. A notice on the platform indicates that this action was taken in response to a legal demand.

Government’s Response

A government spokesperson has clarified that they did not request the withholding of the account. They are actively working with Reuters to find a solution to the issue and ensure the handle is reinstated.

Possible Reason for Block

Reports suggest that the current situation may be a result of an old request that was delayed in its implementation. The government had previously requested the blocking of several social media accounts, including Reuters, during Operation Sindoor. However, at that time, Reuters’ handle was not blocked, unlike others.

Government’s Action

Following these events, the government has urged the platform to explain the actions taken and to lift any censorship as the issue is no longer relevant. It is expected that the Reuters handle will be restored soon.
