SEBI’s Nationwide Investor Education Initiative
India’s securities regulator, SEBI, is set to embark on a significant nationwide investor education campaign. According to SEBI’s Whole-Time Member, Kamlesh Varshney, this initiative marks the regulator’s “next big mission” as they aim to enhance investor awareness across the country.
Collaborative Efforts for Investor Awareness
Varshney mentioned that SEBI is currently working on a comprehensive plan in collaboration with state governments and other key stakeholders. The regulator has already initiated discussions with market intermediaries to ensure a systematic approach to investor education.
SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey has emphasized the importance of elevating investor education to a top priority. A coordinated strategy involving various ministries, state departments, and agencies is being developed to implement this educational drive effectively across different platforms and regions.
Preventing Violations through Education
Varshney highlighted the significance of educating investors to prevent them from falling into fraudulent traps. He stressed that proactive investor education is crucial in avoiding violations and safeguarding investors’ interests.
“The best way to prevent these violations is by educating investors before they fall for these traps,” Varshney explained in an interview with NDTV Profit.
