Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, PM Modi, international visits

CM Bhagwant Mann’s Criticism of PM Modi

Recently, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made critical comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s international visits. Without explicitly mentioning PM Modi, Mann expressed his doubts regarding the importance of the countries the Prime Minister has been visiting.

The Controversial Statements

During a press conference, CM Mann made statements in Hindi that seemed to mock PM Modi’s foreign trips. He mentioned countries like ‘Magnesia’, ‘Galvesia’, and ‘Tarvesia’ where PM Modi had visited and received high civilian awards. Mann questioned why PM Modi was visiting countries with small populations and receiving significant accolades there.

PM Modi’s Recent Tour

PM Modi recently concluded a tour of five nations: Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. The purpose of these visits was to enhance India’s relationships with countries in the Global South. Additionally, PM Modi participated in the BRICS summit held in Brazil.

Accolades Received by PM Modi

During his visits, PM Modi was honored with prestigious awards such as the ‘Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’, ‘The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’, ‘Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross’, ‘Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis’, and the ‘Key to the City of Buenos Aires’.

Ministry of External Affairs’ Response

In response to CM Mann’s remarks, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement condemning the comments made by a “high state authority.” The Ministry emphasized that such irresponsible statements could harm India’s friendly relationships with other nations.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal disavowed the remarks and stated that the Indian government does not endorse comments that jeopardize diplomatic ties with friendly nations.
