Arrests in the Murder Case
Authorities have confirmed that at least five individuals have been apprehended from New Town near Kolkata in relation to the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra at a Patna hospital, as disclosed by the police on Saturday.
Suspects Apprehended
The accused were taken into custody from a housing complex in the satellite township of the metropolitan city following coordinated efforts by the Bihar Police and the West Bengal police during the early hours of Saturday.
Mishra, hailing from Buxar district in Bihar, fell victim to a fatal shooting by assailants inside a private hospital in Patna on a fateful Thursday morning. The deceased gangster, out on parole, was convicted in a murder case.
“All suspects were concealed in an apartment in the New Town area. Four out of the five individuals directly participated in the homicide. The involvement of the fifth suspect in the crime or merely aiding others in hiding is under investigation. They absconded from Patna post the incident and sought refuge in Kolkata,” a law enforcement official stated.
Their tracking was facilitated through the mobile phone tower locations tracing them to Kolkata. The Bihar Police is set to present them before a local court to request transit remand for further legal procedures.
Graphic Footage Emerges
A purported CCTV recording of the event, circulating extensively on social platforms, captured five armed assailants entering the hospital’s ICU and targeting Mishra.
Mishra, incarcerated at Beur Jail, had visited the hospital for medical aid on parole, with a criminal record entailing over two dozen cases, inclusive of more than a dozen murder charges.
SP Patna (Central) Diksha told PTI on Friday that an investigation is ongoing to discern how the perpetrators accessed Mishra’s room sans security scrutiny.
“This highlights major concerns regarding the hospital’s security arrangements. Five assailants, unmasked and armed, managed to reach the second floor, unleash gunfire at Mishra, and escape the scene. Authorities are delving into any potential involvement that led to the security breach,” she emphasized.
