Assamese Actor Nandini Kashyap Involved in Fatal Accident
Assamese actor Nandini Kashyap is under scrutiny for allegedly hitting and killing Samiul Haque, a worker with Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), in a fatal accident in Guwahati’s Udalbakra area.
Legal Actions Taken Against Nandini Kashyap
Following the incident, Haque was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and later shifted to Apollo Hospital, where he passed away during treatment on July 29.
Police authorities mentioned that they were uninformed about the accident until the deceased’s family lodged a complaint on July 26.
An investigating officer stated that although there were suspicions of alcohol influence, confirmation was challenging as the incident was reported the next day.
Kashyap, known for her recent appearance in the Assamese movie Rudra, was apprehended from Rajdhani Theatre in North Guwahati and taken into custody at the Dispur Police Station.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
The All Assam Polytechnic Students’ Union (AAPSU) filed a first information report (FIR) against Kashyap, citing charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), including culpable homicide and hit-and-run causing death, both non-bailable offenses.
Authorities have retrieved CCTV footage from the incident site and confiscated two vehicles linked to the actor for further examination at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
Community Outcry for Justice
Witnesses revealed that the vehicle involved was speeding and did not halt after striking Haque, resulting in severe injuries. GMC workers pursued the vehicle, leading to its discovery at an apartment in Kahilipara, where Kashyap reportedly made efforts to hide the car and even assaulted a bystander recording the event.
Haque’s mother expressed disappointment at Kashyap’s actions, emphasizing the lack of support during her son’s treatment despite promises made.
Official Response and Legal Action
Rajdhani Theatre terminated its association with Nandini Kashyap following the incident. The theatre issued a statement condemning the accident and disassociating from the actress.
Authorities have stated that Kashyap will appear in court on Wednesday for further legal proceedings.
