Bajrang Dal Assaults Press Conference Attendees in Indore
Members of Bajrang Dal, a right-wing group, physically attacked men and women attending a press conference at the Indore Press Club. The victims gathered to speak to the media about allegations of forced religious conversions. Shockingly, women were also subjected to pushing, shoving, and mistreatment in front of everyone.
Violent Confrontation and Accusations
The situation worsened when Bajrang Dal members forcefully entered the venue, accusing the group of enticing people to convert to Christianity under the disguise of social work in Dewas forest areas.
Unprecedented Acts of Aggression
The attackers even resorted to smearing black ink on some victims’ faces and later chased them to a local newspaper office. There, the victims were reportedly beaten again with belts, this time in the presence of authorities.
Roots of the Controversy
The controversy stemmed from police complaints in Dewas, where individuals were found living in forest huts in Barotha police station area. Locals alleged that these individuals were attempting to persuade villagers to convert to Christianity.
Journalist’s Plight
Saurabh Banerjee, a professional journalist, was among those assaulted. He had come to Indore to counter the claims of conversion spread by right-wing groups through a press conference. However, before the event started, Bajrang Dal activists assaulted them, even issuing death threats in front of reporters.
Avinash Kaushal, a member of Bajrang Dal, later justified their actions, alleging a large-scale conversion operation near Shukravasa village in Dewas. He claimed that many young women were being converted to Christianity against their will.
Family Drama Unfolds
During the press conference, Saurabh Banerjee was accused in complaints prompting him to address the issue publicly. A young woman named Nishika was present with him. Soon, the woman’s parents arrived, accusing Saurabh of manipulating their daughter.
The woman, identified as Nishika, and her mother, Ruchi Gaur of Indore, accused Saurabh of brainwashing Nishika into leaving her family and following his beliefs.
Denial of Allegations
Saurabh Banerjee refuted all claims made against him, stating that his organization provides medical services without foreign funding. He denied any involvement in forced conversions and emphasized the independence of individuals above 18 years of age to make their own decisions.
He challenged the accusers to visit the village and witness their work firsthand to dispel any misconceptions.
