Chief Minister Nitish Kumar highlighted the fundamental role of journalists in a democratic society, calling them the fourth pillar of democracy. He praised their significant contribution to social development.
He stated, “Journalists are crucial to democracy. They are essential for social development and play a vital role in our society. We have always prioritized providing facilities to journalists so they can perform their duties impartially and lead a dignified life post-retirement.”
Preparation for Bihar Elections
This announcement comes ahead of the impending Legislative Assembly elections in Bihar, expected to be held later this year. However, the Election Commission has not yet announced the official dates.
Meanwhile, the political dynamics in the state have intensified between the ruling NDA and the opposition Mahagathbandhan, particularly concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls.
The SIR process has sparked controversy, with opposition parties alleging the removal of a substantial number of voters from the rolls.
SIR Process Status
The Election Commission of Bihar recently reported that nearly all of the state’s electors have been covered under the ongoing Special Integrated Revision (SIR) process. Over 7.23 crore electors have submitted their forms, which are being digitized for inclusion in the Draft Electoral Roll set for release on August 1, 2025.
