Gaurav Khemka Seeks Police Protection for Family After Father’s Murder
Gaurav Khemka, the son of businessman Gopal Khemka, is requesting police protection for his family after the tragic murder of his father in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan area. This request comes as a result of a previous family tragedy and concerns for their safety.
Previous Family Tragedy
Gaurav mentioned in his statement recorded in the First Information Report (FIR) that his brother, Gunjan Khemka, was also killed in 2018. This incident has left the family in a state of fear and apprehension. Gaurav urged the government and police authorities to provide them with security and ensure the safety of their family members. He also emphasized the importance of apprehending and punishing the perpetrators responsible for these heinous acts.
The Incident
Gaurav recounted the events leading up to his father’s murder. On the night of the incident, Gopal Khemka had gone to the Bankipore Club and returned home at around 11:20 PM. Upon his arrival, assailants who had been waiting at the gate ambushed him and fatally shot him. The family was alerted by the sound of the gunshot and discovered Gopal Khemka lying in a pool of blood at the gate. They immediately rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.
Delayed Police Action
Despite informing the police promptly after the incident, Gaurav expressed dissatisfaction with the initial response. He claimed that there was a lack of immediate action from the authorities. In the FIR, he detailed how they were on the verge of taking Gopal Khemka’s body home due to the police’s inaction until the District Magistrate intervened around 2 AM, stating that a post-mortem examination was mandatory before releasing the body.
Legal Action
An FIR has been filed at the Gandhi Maidan Police Station under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. In response to the incident, Bihar Police has initiated a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a thorough inquiry into the murder.
