A Shocking Incident in Tirunelveli
A 23-year-old Dalit techie named Kavin Selvaganesh from Chennai was tragically murdered by his girlfriend’s brother in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, today. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about inter-caste relationships in society.
The Alleged Murder
The accused, identified as Surjith Selvaganesh, is reportedly the son of a couple who are police officers. Sources suggest that Surjith disapproved of his sister’s relationship with Kavin due to their different castes. He allegedly lured Kavin into a conversation and then committed the heinous act.
The Victim’s Visit
Kavin had traveled to Tirunelveli to visit his ailing grandfather, who was receiving treatment at a Siddha center. Coincidentally, Kavin’s girlfriend also worked at the same center as a doctor. CCTV footage obtained by the police shows Surjith taking Kavin on his motorbike from the center before the unfortunate incident.
Legal Action Taken
Authorities have filed a case of murder against the accused and invoked relevant laws under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. They have also initiated proceedings against Surjith’s parents, who are also police officers, amid suspicions of involvement or protection. Surjith has since surrendered to the authorities.
Community Outcry and Demands
Following the incident, there has been an outpouring of emotion and demands for justice. Local residents and Kavin’s relatives have staged protests, blocking roads and calling for swift action against the accused and his family. Allegations of police negligence and favoritism towards the suspect due to his influential background have emerged.
Ongoing Developments
Assurances have been made by the police that the couple accused of shielding the main suspect will be apprehended within a day. However, Kavin’s family awaits the return of his body, intensifying the emotional and social repercussions of this tragic event.
