India expressed strong disapproval for the disruption of a Rath Yatra in Toronto, Canada. The incident, which occurred over the weekend, was condemned by Indian authorities as “despicable”.
Disruption of Rath Yatra
During the procession in Toronto, some individuals threw eggs, causing disturbances as reported by the media. The external affairs ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, attributed this disruption to “mischievous elements”.
Jaiswal stated, “Such despicable acts go against the spirit of the festival, aimed at fostering unity, inclusivity, and social harmony.”
The Indian government has initiated discussions with Canadian officials to ensure accountability for those responsible for the disruption. They hope that the Canadian government will uphold the religious rights of individuals involved.
Call for Action
Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also voiced his concerns, urging the Odisha government to push the external affairs ministry to protest strongly against the Canadian authorities regarding this issue.
