US President Donald Trump’s Mediation Efforts
US President Donald Trump expressed his involvement in mediating the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, which has resulted in the unfortunate loss of at least 33 lives.
Peace Talks Initiated
During his visit to Scotland, Trump communicated with the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand. He stated, “Just spoke to the Prime Minister of Cambodia relative to stopping the War with Thailand” on his Truth Social network.
Following this, Trump continued the dialogue by engaging in a conversation with the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand. He emphasized the desire for an immediate ceasefire and peace, echoing Cambodia’s sentiments.
Efforts for Ceasefire and Peace
Trump acknowledged the importance of bringing an end to the conflict and mentioned his plans to convey the message of ceasing hostilities to the Prime Minister of Cambodia. He highlighted the potential for a resolution leading to peace and prosperity for both nations.
The tension arose due to disputes over historic temple sites, escalating into clashes along the rural border area shared by the two countries. The conflict extended to their coastal regions, specifically around the Gulf of Thailand.
Trump’s Comparison to Pakistan-India Conflict
Reflecting on the severity of the situation, Trump drew parallels to the historical conflict between Pakistan and India, emphasizing the necessity of halting the hostilities for the greater good.
Furthermore, Trump asserted that any progress on trade agreements with Cambodia and Thailand would be contingent upon the resolution of the ongoing conflict.
As the clashes persist, Trump’s diplomatic efforts aim to facilitate dialogue and promote peaceful resolutions between Cambodia and Thailand.
