Heavy Rains in Himachal Pradesh Claim 106 Lives During Monsoon – GNP News

The heavy rains during the monsoon season have impacted life and property in parts of Himachal Pradesh. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 106 lives have been lost between June 20 and July 15, 2025.

Causes of Deaths

Out of the total fatalities, 62 deaths have been directly linked to rain-related calamities like landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, electrocution, and falls. Additionally, 44 people have lost their lives in road accidents during the same period.

Details of Losses

The SDMA’s report shows that out of the 62 rain-related deaths, 15 were from cloudburst incidents, 12 from falling from heights, 11 due to drowning, 8 in flash floods, 5 from electrocution, 5 from snake bites, 1 in landslides, and 1 from fire.

Furthermore, there were 44 deaths reported from road accidents, with Mandi, Kullu, and Kinnaur being the most affected districts.

Impact on Property and Infrastructure

Aside from the loss of lives, there has been extensive damage to property and infrastructure. The report mentions over 293 pucca and 91 kaccha houses completely damaged, nearly 850 hectares of agricultural land affected, and public property losses exceeding Rs 81 crore, which include damage to roads, water supply, power infrastructure, and health and education buildings.

The SDMA and district authorities are actively involved in rescue and relief operations, with emergency services, NDRF, and local administration responding to various incidents across the state.

The disaster management officials urge the public to remain vigilant and adhere to safety advisories as heavy rainfall persists in different regions.
