Changes in Indian Team for 4th Test
Before the 4th Test against England in Manchester, the Indian team, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, decided to make three significant changes to their lineup. The team had to deal with injuries to Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy, leading to their replacement. Additionally, skipper Gill made an unforced change by bringing in B Sai Sudharsan in place of Karun Nair for the crucial match.
Toss Decision and Match Conditions
England’s captain, Ben Stokes, won the toss and chose to bowl first. Explaining his decision, Stokes mentioned favorable overhead conditions for bowling and the need for everyone to recharge after the break. The pitch at Manchester was described as typical, with firmness and some grass. Liam Dawson also made a return to the team after a long absence.
Gill expressed his contentment at losing the toss, highlighting his confusion over whether to bat or bowl first. He confirmed Nair’s exclusion in favor of Sudharsan due to a lackluster performance. At 33 years old, doubts about Nair’s future in Test cricket emerged with this decision.
“I was actually confused. Good toss to lose. The way we’ve played in the last three Tests has been outstanding. Some crunch moments we’ve lost, but we’ve won more sessions than them. You need a bit of a break. All three Tests were intense. Looks like a good surface. There’s some forecast around in the four-five days. Three changes: Sai Sudharsan comes in place of Karun. Kamboj and Shardul are in as well for Akash Deep and Reddy who are injured,” Gill elaborated during the toss.
