The ongoing disputes between Usha and EC members have severely impacted the functioning of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The EC has not approved the appointment of CEO Raghuram Iyer, who is supported by Usha.
IOC’s Concern
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has raised governance concerns with the Indian delegation visiting the IOC headquarters in Lausanne. This discussion was part of India’s bid for hosting the 2036 Olympics. Due to the governance issues, IOC has halted its support grants to IOA.
Efforts to Resolve
In recent days, Minister Mandaviya has been trying to mediate between Usha and EC members. Informal meetings have been held to reconcile differences. Usha has also reached out to some EC members in an attempt to improve relations.
According to reports, a truce within IOA began when Usha involved treasurer Sahdev Yadav and EC member Bhupender Bajwa in a panel to plan the delayed Boxing Federation of India (BFI) elections. CEO Iyer has also engaged in discussions with EC members.
An official mentioned that Iyer’s appointment may now be approved after certain adjustments. “Efforts are being made to find a compromise and resolve the current deadlock,” the official stated.
