KL Rahul Second Indian to Score Multiple Centuries at Lord’s – GNP News

KL Rahul, Lord's, century

Indian cricket opener KL Rahul achieved a remarkable feat by becoming only the second Indian player to score more than one century at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground. The first Indian to achieve this feat was the legendary Dilip Vengsarkar.

Rahul’s Landmark Century

KL Rahul reached this milestone during the third day of the third Test match against England. He secured the century with a single run off Jofra Archer right after the lunch break. However, his celebration was short-lived as he was dismissed by off-spinner Shoaib Bashir immediately after reaching the three-figure mark.

Scoring exactly 100 runs in 177 balls, Rahul’s innings included 13 boundaries. This century marked his second century in the ongoing five-match series, following his earlier century in the opening match at Leeds.

Memorable Moments

During his time at the crease, Rahul showcased his batting prowess with elegant drives and flicks. The highlight of his innings was a stylish backfoot punch square of the wicket off Brydon Carse.

Notably, Dilip Vengsarkar had previously scored three centuries at Lord’s in 1979, 1982, and 1986.

Legacy at Lord’s

To date, a total of 10 Indian cricketers, including Rahul and Vengsarkar, have earned a place on the honours board at Lord’s. Vengsarkar holds the record for the most centuries by a visiting batsman at the historic venue, often referred to as the Mecca of Cricket.

Rahul’s first century at Lord’s came in 2021 when he scored 129 in India’s victory by 151 runs.

The ongoing series between India and England is currently tied at 1-1.
