Bravery in the Face of Adversity
Despite being on attachment with 18 Grenadiers for just a year, Major Adhikari led an assault on a well-fortified enemy position at 15,000 feet, turning the Battle of Tololing in India’s favor.
The Ultimate Sacrifice
During the assault, Adhikari was engaged in hand-to-hand combat, refusing evacuation even when injured. His unwavering courage led to heavy enemy casualties at the cost of his own life.
For his extraordinary bravery, Major Adhikari was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra at the young age of 29. His sacrifice and valor are remembered to this day.
Off the battlefield, Maj Rajesh Adhikari was known for his musical talent, bringing joy to his fellow soldiers with his guitar renditions. He was a simple, sincere, and beloved figure among his comrades.
Despite facing insurmountable odds, Major Adhikari and his fellow soldiers displayed unwavering determination and courage, an example celebrated every Vijay Diwas.
His sacrifice, along with that of many others during the Kargil War, is a testament to the indomitable spirit and valor of the Indian Army.
