Malayalam Rapper Vedan Accused of Rape
Popular Malayalam rapper and songwriter Hirandas Murali, better known by his stage name Vedan, is facing serious legal issues. A recent complaint filed by a doctor has resulted in Vedan being booked for rape. The allegations suggest that the rapper sexually abused the complainant over a significant period, from August 2021 to March 2023. This abuse is said to have occurred under false promises of marriage.
Legal Actions and Investigations
The police in Thrikkakara, Ernakulam, Kerala, took action and registered the case promptly following the complaint. The petitioner approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kochi City and provided her statement, leading to the initiation of legal proceedings against Vedan. As of now, the authorities are diligently verifying the details of the complaint, and Vedan has not yet been questioned or arrested.
The troubling incidents that prompted the complaint allegedly took place a few years ago. The specific mention of Thrikkakara as one of the locations linked to the alleged abuse eventually resulted in the formal registration of the case.
Past Allegations and Controversies
This is not the first time Vedan has faced accusations of sexual abuse. During the MeToo movement, similar claims emerged, although no police case was registered at that time. However, the current situation involves a case of multiple sexual assaults against the same individual, as the events occurred before the implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Vedan is no stranger to controversy. In 2023, he faced legal issues related to drug possession and the possession of a prohibited item under the Wildlife Protection Act. Additionally, in 2025, a complaint was lodged against Vedan for allegedly defaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and promoting caste division through his song lyrics.
As the investigation unfolds and legal proceedings progress, the future for Vedan remains uncertain amidst mounting allegations and controversies surrounding his past actions.
