Nothing Phone 3’s Durability Test Revealed

Recently, the Carl Pei-led company, Nothing, introduced its newest smartphone, the Nothing Phone 3. Despite initial criticisms regarding its pricing and design, the phone seems to have received positive feedback following a durability test carried out by a popular YouTuber.

Durability Test Conducted by Zack Nelson

The well-known YouTuber, Zack Nelson, also known as @JerryRigEverything, performed an in-depth teardown of the Nothing Phone 3 in his latest video. Throughout the teardown process, Nelson subjected the phone to various durability tests, including exposing the display to a lighter’s flame, bending the phone to assess its structural strength, and scratching both the display and the aluminium frame with a knife.

The Nothing Phone 3 comes equipped with Gorilla Glass 7i protection. While the touchscreen exhibited scratch marks at a hardness level of 6 on the Moh’s scale, more profound scratches were visible at level 7. This suggests that the Gorilla Glass 7i can safeguard the screen from minor scratches caused by keys and coins, but it may not resist scratches from sharper objects like knives.

Impressive Structural Integrity

During the bend test, Nelson applied pressure to the front and back of the phone; remarkably, the Nothing Phone 3 showed no signs of flexing. Despite the additional antenna lines on the aluminium frame, the phone remained sturdy and did not bend, indicating excellent structural integrity.

However, the burn test led to damage on the 6.67-inch display, which could not be fully restored even after cooling down. Despite this, Nelson concluded that the phone passed his durability examination.

Teardown Reveals Unique Features

Following the durability test, Nelson proceeded with the teardown process. Removing the back panel exposed integrated rear camera bumps in the transparent glass. Notably, the touch capacitive button for the Glyph Matrix function is also embedded in the rear glass. Beneath the Gorilla Glass Victus protection, a panel conceals the phone’s internal components. Moreover, the rear wireless charging coils are positioned in a non-symmetrical circle, possibly to accommodate the Glyph Matrix’s rear touch capacitive button.

For Indian consumers, the Nothing Phone 3 was launched with impressive specifications on July 1st. Featuring a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset and up to 16GB of RAM, the phone boasts a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a high resolution and pixel density. The device houses a triple camera setup with 50-megapixel lenses and a 50-megapixel selfie camera. Additionally, it includes a large 5,500mAh battery with 65W wired fast charging support.
