PM Modi Nominates Ujjwal Nikam to Rajya Sabha
Noted lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, among the four persons nominated by President Droupadi Murmu to Rajya Sabha, revealed that on Sunday, he received a call from PM Modi informing him about the news.
Conversation with PM Modi
Ujjwal Nikam mentioned, “Modi ji speaks excellent Marathi. He begins some of his speeches in Maharashtra in Marathi and then switches to Hindi.” Nikam added how PM Modi asked him whether he should speak in Marathi or Hindi during the call.
Recalling the conversation, Ujjwal Nikam shared, “I told him that he has command over both languages. He informed me that the President wants to assign some responsibility to me and asked if I would accept it.”
Ujjwal Nikam, who faced defeat in the Lok Sabha election last year, stated that when he inquired about the nature of the responsibility, PM Modi revealed that it would entail a membership in the Rajya Sabha.
Notification from Home Ministry
In a notification issued late Saturday night, the Union Home Ministry announced the nomination of former foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Special Public Prosecutor in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case Ujjwal Nikam, Kerala BJP leader C Sadanandan Master, and Delhi-based historian Meenakshi Jain to the Rajya Sabha.
