Police Crackdown on Narcotics Trafficking in Thane
Recently, the police in Thane took strong action against narcotics trafficking by seizing 2.184 kg of mephedrone (MD) drug valued at a staggering Rs 3.97 crore. This major bust led to the arrest of a food delivery agent and another individual in separate operations.
First Operation: Arrest of Irfan Amanullah Sheikh
In the initial operation, the police apprehended Irfan Amanullah Sheikh, a 36-year-old food delivery agent employed by a prominent firm, in Ulwe, Raigad district. Sheikh was found in possession of 1.522 kg of mephedrone, valued at Rs 3,04,71,700, intended for sale.
Acting on valuable information received on July 27, the Anti-Narcotics Squad set up a trap near a road leading to Diva village. The suspect was caught around 5.50 pm the same day with the illegal drug in his possession.
A case has been filed against Sheikh at the Shil Daighar Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Second Operation: Arrest of Shahrukh Sattar Mewasi
In another operation, the Crime Branch Unit-1 conducted a trap on July 24 in Kalwa and intercepted Shahrukh Sattar Mewasi, also known as Rizwan, a 28-year-old mason from Mandsaur. Police discovered 662 grams of mephedrone valued at Rs 92,68,000 in his vehicle.
Mewasi has been suspected to be part of an inter-state drug trafficking network and has been remanded to police custody till July 30 for further interrogation.
Combined, both operations resulted in the confiscation of 2.184 kg of mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant drug, worth Rs 3,97,39,700.
DCP Jadhav expressed the commitment of the police to eliminate the drug menace in Thane by targeting all facets of the illegal drug trade, from couriers to dealers and their suppliers.
