Rahul Gandhi’s Protest Against “Vote Theft” in Karnataka

Rahul Gandhi has sparked a protest in Bengaluru after revealing findings of what he claims is systematic “vote theft” by the BJP. The Congress leader alleged that the BJP engaged in rigging elections across the country.

Gandhi’s Accusations

Rahul Gandhi shared insights from a detailed analysis of electoral rolls in a Karnataka constituency. The process involved converting physical records into digital format to identify irregularities in the voting system. Gandhi described the discovered vote manipulation as “bhayankar chori” (massive theft).

On July 23, Gandhi boldly stated, “We have it in black and white.” He emphasized that a comprehensive study of a constituency’s voters’ list over six months revealed the BJP’s election fraud techniques and those involved in the scheme.

The Protest

The protest is being led by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). Details for the event are being finalized by state party leaders.

Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed Gandhi’s active participation in the protest. He assured that after the event, a formal complaint would be lodged with the Election Commission officials.

Gandhi’s Speech and Plans

Rahul Gandhi is set to address party workers at Freedom Park as part of the protest. To comply with High Court orders against public gatherings, no processions will take place during the event. The Home Minister stressed that the program will adhere to the court’s directives.

Support from Leaders

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah echoed Gandhi’s concerns, attributing Congress’ electoral setbacks to BJP’s manipulation and misuse of the Election Commission. He highlighted suspicious changes in voter rolls reported by Congress members in various constituencies.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also supported the allegations, revealing discrepancies in voter lists after investigating the Bangalore Rural constituency.

National Implications

The protest adds to the ongoing national debate over electoral roll revisions in states like Bihar. It underscores the heightened scrutiny of India’s electoral processes ahead of crucial assembly elections and the 2026 delimitation.
