Rebuilding Lives After the Disaster

Survivors of the Mundakkai–Chooralmala disaster, especially children, are slowly regaining stability in their lives. New houses are being constructed, schools have reopened their doors, and with assistance from family, the government, and kind strangers, a sense of normalcy is returning.

Children Under Kinship Foster Care

Seven children lost both parents in the tragedy, two of them on the brink of adulthood. The other five have been under the Kinship Foster Care scheme, residing with close relatives. Officials report that all five children, aged 5 to 16, are thriving well.

Stories of Hope and Resilience

Young girls among the survivors have found solace in their new homes. A five-year-old cherishes her aunt’s newborn baby, while an eight-year-old fills her days with laughter and chatter. Meanwhile, educational opportunities await the older survivors, with one’s degree sponsored by a college and the other back in school.
