Spotify Rolls Out Audiobooks+ Service Expansion
Spotify recently announced the extension of its premium audiobook service, Audiobooks+, for its individual premium subscribers. The music streaming service is now offering the service to additional members who are part of the Premium Family and Duo subscribers for the first time. Initially trialed in Ireland and Canada, the service is now being launched in 11 other countries across the globe. However, the timeline for its availability in other regions, including India, remains undisclosed.
Expansion and Availability
As per a press release on Spotify’s website, the new add-on plans aim to widen the reach of the premium audiobook streaming service, Audiobooks+. Formerly limited to trials in Ireland and Canada, the service is now accessible to Spotify users in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, France, and several other European countries. Spotify claims that these plans will provide enhanced flexibility to its subscribers.
Detailed Plans
The Audiobooks+ for Plan Members allows additional members of the Premium Family and Duo subscribers to listen to audiobooks for up to 15 hours per month. Users simply need to request access from their plan manager, who can purchase the add-on on their behalf. For those who exhaust their 15-hour quota, a top-up option is available for a one-time listening experience of 10 hours.
In India, Spotify’s family plan permits up to 6 family members, including the primary user, for Rs. 179 per month. The availability and cost of the new Audiobooks+ add-on plans in India remain uncertain.
The second plan, Audiobooks+ for individual Premium members, offers a monthly audiobook streaming quota of 15 hours, similar to the add-on plan for family members.
Enhanced User Experience
Spotify anticipates that the new Audiobooks+ plans will provide increased flexibility to listeners, potentially attracting millions of new subscribers worldwide. The company aims to assist publishers and authors in reaching new audiences while boosting revenue.
With reports indicating a below-estimated operating profit for Spotify in the first quarter of 2025, the introduction of the Audiobooks+ plans could be a strategic move to recover losses.
