According to reports, Tesla has started its operations in Mumbai by shipping five Model Y units from its Shanghai plant. Each vehicle was declared at ₹27.7 lakh, but due to India’s high import duties, the final cost per unit rose significantly.

Official documents revealed that Tesla acquired showroom space in Mumbai’s BKC area, renting 4,000 sq ft for ₹23.38 crore for five years. This space also includes two car parking spots, making it the most expensive auto showroom lease deal in the country.

Besides the showroom, Tesla secured 30 seats in a managed office space in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex, known for being the most expensive business district in India. The office space comes with a monthly rent of ₹3 lakh.

Tesla also leased a 24,565 sq ft warehouse space for use as a service center in Mumbai’s Kurla area. The total rent for five years amounts to ₹24.38 crore, making it a significant investment by the company.

Sources mention that Tesla has finalized a showroom space in Delhi’s Aerocity area, near the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The showroom measures around 4000 sq ft with a monthly rent of ₹25 lakh.
