Toyota’s Global Sales Increase
Toyota, along with subsidiaries Daihatsu Motor Co. and Hino Motors Ltd., reported a strong increase in global sales of 7.4% to over 5.5 million units between January and June. This growth was primarily fueled by robust demand in the US, Japan, and China.
Impact of Tariffs
The surge in sales was partly attributed to customers rushing to make purchases before the implementation of a 25% tariff on car imports by the US government. This led to a boost in production by 8.8% to 5.5 million units, including a significant rise in domestic output.
Trade Pact Benefits
Despite concerns over tariffs, Japan’s carmakers, including Toyota, found relief in a recent trade pact. This agreement reduced the duty on vehicles imported to the US to 15%, resulting in a positive market response. Toyota’s shares saw a notable increase in value as a result of the deal.
Global Market Expansion
Toyota’s global sales continued to grow in June, with a 2.7% increase to 937,246 units. Production also saw a rise of 7.7% to 963,455 units. The company’s focus on hybrid vehicles has contributed to its success, although it faces stiff competition from electric vehicle manufacturers like Tesla and BYD.
