Nagaland Police Pledges to Address Foothill Naga Coordination Committee Grievances
The Nagaland Police has responded to the grievances raised by the Foothill Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) after a recent meeting. Officials from the police headquarters met with FNCC representatives on July 28, 2025, to discuss the concerns brought forward by the committee.
Commitment to Genuine Concerns
During the meeting, the police department assured the FNCC representatives that they would thoroughly investigate all legitimate issues raised. A statement issued by the state police on Tuesday night expressed the department’s commitment to addressing these matters with the utmost seriousness.
Furthermore, the police department reaffirmed its dedication to resolving the issues in a prompt and appropriate manner, acknowledging the importance of the concerns raised by the FNCC.
The FNCC has been protesting against the alleged encroachment into ancestral Naga territories in Manipur. The committee initiated an indefinite bandh in the Naga inhabited foothill areas starting from midnight on July 18.
Opposition to Proposed Construction
One of the main points of contention is the planned construction of the “German and Tiger roads,” connecting Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts. The FNCC claims that this construction was proposed without consulting the Naga people, leading to widespread opposition.
In addition, the FNCC is vocal about the alleged establishment and relocation of Suspension of Operation (SoO) camps by Kuki militants within Naga territories. They have also raised concerns about unauthorized cultivation of poppy, which they argue poses a threat to the social and environmental balance of indigenous lands.
Call for Action
The FNCC has urged the central government to dismantle all illegal SoO camps and militant training centers on Naga ancestral lands immediately. They have also demanded an end to what they perceive as encroachments and unauthorized renaming of roads or landmarks within their territories without proper consultation.
In light of these ongoing issues, the FNCC continues to advocate for the preservation of Naga heritage and the protection of ancestral territories.
