Assassin’s Creed Shadows Expansion: Claws of Awaji
Ubisoft has announced the upcoming release of the “Claws of Awaji” expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, adding over 10 hours of new content to the game. Set to be released on September 16, this expansion will introduce a new region to the game map, along with new weapons, abilities, outfits, and legendary gear.
The storyline of the expansion takes players on a journey to the mysterious Island of Awaji beyond Osaka Bay. Players will accompany Naoe and Yasuke as they search for lost treasure while facing off against the new enemy faction, Sanzoku Ippa. The expansion also includes new bosses and a continuation of the main story.
New Features and Updates
Players who pre-ordered the base game will receive the expansion for free, while others can purchase it separately starting September 16. Ubisoft will also be rolling out two free updates prior to the release of Claws of Awaji:
- The Progression Update, scheduled for July 29, will introduce a much-requested New Game+ mode, increasing the level cap, and adding new Knowledge Ranks, skill ranks, and achievements.
- The second update in September will bring quality-of-life improvements like time-of-day fast-forwarding and uncapped frame rate for cutscenes on PC.
In addition, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot hinted at new versions of Assassin’s Creed Shadows for other platforms, possibly including a version for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2.
Market Performance and Sales
Assassin’s Creed Shadows has garnered significant success, with over five million players since its release. Market analytics firm Alinea Analytics reported high sales figures on various platforms, including PS5, Steam, and Xbox.
Despite the game’s production budget exceeding EUR 100 million, Guillemot expressed satisfaction with the game’s performance. Alinea Analytics suggested that the game had broken even but had not generated substantial profit yet.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows was originally released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X in March and has since become a popular choice among gamers worldwide.
