Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants Detained and Facing Deportation
Sandeep Kumar, PRO of Gurugram Police, has confirmed that ten illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been detained by the authorities. Bangladeshi documents were found in their possession, prompting the initiation of deportation procedures.
Controversy Surrounding Targeting of Bengali-speaking Muslims
In response to this, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi criticized the detention of Bengali-speaking Muslims in India. He accused the police of unfairly labelling them as “illegal” and targeting them without justification.
Owaisi highlighted that those being detained are usually from the poorest economic backgrounds, often residing in slums and working in menial jobs such as domestic work and waste picking. He argued that they are being singled out due to their inability to challenge alleged police mistreatment.
Reports of Indian Citizens Forced into Bangladesh
Furthermore, Owaisi stated that there have been distressing instances of Indian citizens being forcibly transported across the border into Bangladesh.
“The government’s actions show a disparity in treatment between the weak and the strong. Many individuals accused of being ‘illegal immigrants’ are among the most vulnerable in society, struggling to make ends meet,” Owaisi remarked.
He also criticized the indiscriminate detention of Bengali-speaking Muslims in various parts of India, asserting that such actions are unlawful. Owaisi referenced an official document from the District Magistrate’s office in Gurugram detailing a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the deportation of Bangladeshi and Rohingya individuals.
