Indian origin billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy criticizes Zohran Mamdani
Vivek Ramaswamy, a billionaire Republican of Indian origin, has intensified his criticism against New York’s mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani for his “radical left” policies. Ramaswamy has voiced concerns that if the 33-year-old Muslim leader is elected, America’s most populous city could lose its identity.
Ramaswamy’s Stance on Mamdani
The former biotech executive, age 38, who is eyeing the governor seat in Ohio in 2026, believes cities like New York are eroding the American spirit. He aims to present Ohio as the new center for rekindling the “American dream.” Ramaswamy stated, “I moved to NYC after I graduated college in 2007 because it was a place that still celebrated success. But that spirit has diminished in New York and might disappear due to Mamdani’s influence.”
Ramaswamy highlighted, “We’re reviving that American Dream in a new place: Ohio. The revival starts next November.”
Vivek Ramaswamy has based his campaign on cultural and ideological disparities between blue cities and red states. He criticized Mamdani’s socialist viewpoint and his stance against billionaires. Ramaswamy advocates focusing on providing every American with a world-class education and financial independence, rather than targeting billionaires.
Opposition Against Mamdani
A Times Square billboard recently urged New Yorkers to steer clear of Mamdani’s “radical socialist” politics and consider relocating to Ohio—Ramaswamy’s gubernatorial area. The digital billboard was sponsored by “VPAC or Vivek Super PAC – Victors, not Victims,” a political entity supporting Ramaswamy’s candidacy.
Ramaswamy penned an op-ed in The New York Post, advising critics to discuss Mamdani’s anti-capitalist beliefs rather than focusing on his background as a Ugandan-Indian or Muslim.
Reflecting on online discrimination, Ramaswamy mentioned facing ethnic slurs. He denounced the “race-obsessed fringe of the right” for targeting Indian-origin figures like Mamdani and Usha Vance, US vice-president JD Vance’s wife.
“It’s a shame to watch the race-obsessed fringe of the right try to outdo the race-obsessed woke left,” noted Ramaswamy.
