Woman’s Google Maps Mishap in Navi Mumbai
A woman in Navi Mumbai accidentally drove her car into a ditch on Friday morning while following directions through Google Maps. She was on her way from Belapur to Ulwe when the incident occurred.
The woman was supposed to take the Bay bridge in Belapur, but Google Maps navigated her through a route beneath the bridge, leading to Dhruvatara Jetty. Unaware of the error, she continued following the directions and eventually drove into the water.
Marine security officials at the scene witnessed the accident and promptly acted to pull the woman out of the ditch. She was found floating in the water but was rescued within minutes, sustaining no injuries. Her car was also successfully retrieved from the ditch.
Previous Incidents Caused by Google Maps
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Google Maps has misled people and resulted in accidents, some of them tragic. In a previous incident, three individuals lost their lives when the car, guided by Google Maps, mistakenly climbed a damaged bridge and plunged into a river below while traveling from Bareilly to Dataganj in the Badaun district. Google responded to the incident by cooperating with authorities in the investigation and offering their support to address the issue.
In yet another occurrence, a tourist group from Hyderabad in Kerala inadvertently drove into a swollen stream while relying on Google Maps for navigation. The road they were on had been flooded by water overflowing from the stream due to heavy rainfall. Lacking familiarity with the area, the tourists unintentionally drove into the water while following directions on Google Maps. Fortunately, all four individuals managed to escape unscathed from the incident.
