Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line Safety Inspection Update

Reports from Bengaluru suggest that the Yellow Line of the Metro is set for a safety inspection starting from July 22. There are expectations that Prime Minister Modi might inaugurate this new development in August.

Investigation Status

Parameshwara, speaking in Bengaluru, mentioned that a decision about setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is premature as the investigation is still in its initial stages. The decision will be based on the case’s requirements, and discussions have taken place with the Chief Minister about this.

Recently, public-interest lawyers met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to advocate for an SIT investigation into concerning matters involving mass murder, rape, and secret burials in Dharmasthala. They are urging the establishment of an SIT led by an Additional Director General of Police and a High Court judge.

Forensic Support

The legal team is also pushing for comprehensive forensic assistance, including DNA analysis, digital evidence gathering, and thorough video documentation of the investigation process. They claim that the local police are not following the required protocols despite the filing of an FIR and a witness providing a statement.

Moreover, the complainant’s statement, recorded on July 12 under appropriate legal sections, has faced criticism for lack of legal counsel presence. The complaint, initiated by a former sanitation worker from Dharmasthala, alleges coerced disposal of bodies and has now resulted in the individual being granted protection under the Witness Protection Scheme.

The case emerged following a complaint at the Dharmasthala Police Station, accusing certain individuals of clandestine body disposals in a Dakshina Kannada village.
